Lucille
(A. Collins & R. Penniman) |
16 March 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
One of Little Richards' hits of 1956, the man with
the most energetic voice of the original Rock 'n' Roll years. This version sounds
much more casual, of course. |

Will my mama love me
(Thomas Geissmann) |
16 March 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |

Yesterday is here
(Kathleen Brennan, Thomas Alan Waits) |
2 March 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
Vibes and a box full of tea for percussion. The perfect
material for performing Tom Waits's song of 1987. |

Crime fiction
(Thomas Geissmann) |
2 March 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
The idea was to create a soundtrack for a non-existing
movie. The result is quite funny, considering that the only equipment I used was
a tape-deck, a portable piano and some kitchen tools. |

I am falling down
(Thomas Geissmann) |
28 Feb. 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
My first youthful attempt at songwriting, dating from
1983. Embarassing text, but nice tune. |

Ruby Baby
(Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller) |
23 Feb. 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
This is just one of the many hits Leiber and Stoller
wrote for the vocal group The Drifters. I just love the up-tempo numbers of the 1950's
doo-wop groups. Here's my shot at it: Nothing but a-capella harmony (well, my aproximaton
of harmony). |

Suzie Q
(Dale Hawkins) |
16-23 Feb. 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
Dale Hawkins' greatest hit of 1957. A simple but extremely
efficient song. |

I'm a good man, but a poor man
(Cecil Gant) |
16 Feb. 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
I fell in love with Cecil Gant's 1949 song right when
I heard it on the radio, in the 1970's. For years I tried to find a copy of that
recording. Because I was not successful at it, I finally decided to record my own
"Ersatz"-version. |

Blind Willie McTell
(Robert Allen Zimmerman) |
16 Feb. 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
My favorite Bob Dylan song (of 1983?) was released
in 1991. I couldn't figure out all the words, but recorded a cover version anyway. |
|
It ain't necessarily so
(George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin) |
16-23 Feb. 1996, Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
This wonderful song by the Gershwin's of 1935 was covered
innumerable times. Here's a different interpretation. |

Bring it on home to me
(Sam Cooke) |
ca. 1990 + 20 Feb. 1996, Anthropological Institute
and Universitätsstrasse, Zürich |
Sam Cooke's classic of 1962. I recorded a version on
the same occasion as "Sunflowers" (see below). The rediscovery of this
audio cassette 6 years later triggered the Spring 1996 recording sesssions. I wanted
to add additional track to the original recording and found a way to do it by using
a double cassette deck. |

Sunflowers
(Thomas Geissmann) |
ca. 1990, Anthropological Institute, Zürich |
Just a simple guitar tune I tape-recorded in order
to remember it. |
